Not no mention the fact that the "D" section is incredibly strong. At least
on my Super Rebel it doesn't oil can at all when pressed upon. Seems like I
could stand on it and not hurt it.

I can think of three reasons not to fill them with foam
#1 unless you know the exact expansion rate of the foam
you could easily bend things out of shape.
#2 This really would not prevent denting because the foam
would give behind the aluminum.
#3 Foam will absorb water.
