The Cowling kit from MAM used 0.020 which worked fine for me. Heavier
stuff might be more difficult to wrap around the curves unless you have
rollers available. MAM suggested bending the 0.020 around a tube
manually. I did use rollers but some guys just leave it flat. Don't know
if that eventually causes paint problems from flexing it. I used
doublers around my cowl latches on the top doors but not on the bottom
doors that use the piano hinges. I like my cowl latches but the piano
hinges work better than I expected and were a lot less work.

I've heard other guys mention using 0.025

On the Moose I used .025 for the second set of doors I made the first ones
from .020 and with the six cylinder spaning a larger area didn't seem
sufficient so I made another set of heavier material and seem to work so for
in paint shop now.. Dale SR-033 N269DF

Hi Del, I found the 032 too hard to work with to get the right curve without
the proper tools - but with the 025 I could use a piece of 2" pipe in the
vice and sort of roll the pieces over the pipe to get the curve to fit. The
four doors end up being relatively small with hinge support and nose bowl
and firewall support as well so the 025 worked for me.

Thanks, yeah I was only looking for the weight. My dad and I have had to re-do the cowling because it doesn't fit our engine. Forgot to weigh the thing before we started so I could compare the finished product.

That weight includes a 1-1/2 flange around the entire main opening that
must be removed. Have no idea what that would weigh.
