What measurements are you lookking for LeRoy? It seems that most rebel
flyers prefer flaperons.

HI DREW THE MEASUREMENT THAT I NEED WOULD BE FOR HORNS TO FABRICATE FOR
PUSH PULL TUBES AND HANDLE MEASUREMENTS TO FABRICATE FOR FLAPS/ AILERONS.
ALSO ANY OTHER MEASUREMENTS THAT WOULD BE USEFUL AS WE ARE FABRICATING FROM
SCRATCH. WE WOULD LIKE TO LIFT OFF FASTER AND TO LAND AT A SLOWER SPEED

[rebel-builders] flap / aileron details for Rebel

Hi LeRoy !

If you are changing a Rebel from flapperons, to split flaps
& ailerons thinking to improve takeoff and landing performance --
save your time. It will be WORSE !!

I've flown both configurations enough to tell you absolutely
that the split flaps/ailerons combo will give you HALF the flaps
and HALF the ailerons - roll rate will be a lot less, and so will
the drag from the reduced flap area. Plus, you will add weight.

DO NOT think that you can extend the flaps further down
than the max. of 18 degrees allowed with flapperons - if you
do, you risk having them rip off in flight !!! There are still
only the same 2 hanger supports for the flaps - and 18 degrees is
the loading limit !

If the flapperons are set up correctly, coming down in
6 degree increments, then you will get the BEST takeoff
and landing results by using the FULL 18 degrees for both
takeoff & landing. I have been doing that happily for 17 years ...
Somewhere, there is video of takeoff & landing in under 150 ft.
Also, with the flapperons, you get the benefit of using 2 notches
of NEGATIVE flapperon for cruise - this will add about 3 - 6 mph
speed, AND give a smoother ride in bumpy air, because it reduces
the induced drag and surplus lift.

Yes, I know there is ONE individual who has achieved better
performance by splitting - AND adding precision aileron drooping controls.
This really represents a major refinement of the flapperon system.
I submit that that combination is suited to, and useable by, ONLY
someone with the engineering & piloting skills of THAT individual !!
The stock factory split setup, and several variations of it that I have
flown were definitely inferior to the flapperons.

[rebel-builders] flap / aileron details for Rebel

All of Bob's words of wisdom aside (and I mean that), I do have a split
flap/aileron kit that I don't plan on using that I would part with for
something interesting. Craig
