If I am going to use the LS2, for cabin heat, I am thinking of running lines off the cooling system through the firewall, under the floor to the back and then into a small radiator and fan - like in a car. That way I will not need to punch a big air hole through the firewall and I will keep the weight ( not much in a car heater) at the back. I don't know what others have done with water cooled engines.
Any comments?

Chris, I bought a unit from Vesta and I know why he
doesn't give out
his buyers names.
The radiator is set at an angle below the engine with an air
scoop on
the bottom of the cowl. This works well in cooling the
engine. I flew
today at 70F and water temp 180F and oil at 190F.
The mount is from Vesta. The thrust line is outlined in
the
construction manual. If you don't have a manual and your
kit is not
done, MAM will sell you a manual on CD or paper.
The ignition is a dual computer that only uses crank sensor,
manifold
pressure, and and inlet air temp to control the engine. It
works quite
well. It is sold by RWS Solutions out of Florida. It
requires a
toothed wheel on the crank which would probably interfer with
your
installation of the PSRU.
My heater is quite simple and my not work well if you live in a
cold
climate, but in Phoenix I don't need much of a heater. I
placed a scoop
on the back of the radiator and used scat tubing to the firewall
to get
warm air into the cabin.
If I remember correctly, the unit that you bought would
fit in the
standard Cessna cowl. The problem is they used a radiator
under the
belly of the plane for cooling.
You might want to look at the new system that is being sold by
Geareddrives out of Texas. They are using a gear box and
have been
flying their system for over 700 hours. They have pictures
of their
system that is to be for the RV10. At present, I am
committed to the
current Vesta box. If I were to change I would consider
the geareddrive
unit. The pictures might give you some options for the
mount and the
cooling. I have old pics of my system that shows the
cooling and the
mount, but not the PSRU{it was back for repairs]. If you
have access to
a MAM manual it may give you size and pictures of their
cowl for the
Lyc engine, that might work for your system.
If you have room under the cowl, you can also run the LS
engines with a
carb. Several after market auto parts companies are
selling manifolds
and control boxes to run the engine. My experience with my
engine is
that it has to run richer than a car engine because of the power
settings the engine runs at cruise settings. I try to keep
the EGTs
below 1250F now because I had trouble with intake valves at
higher EGTs.
