Hello Mark
I budgeted 90 k for my rebel on amphibs with a o-320(20k?)
modest instruments allowed a fair bit for paint and the like
but im pretty sure it can be done for pretty close to that.
you mat be able to do it 10 k cheaper or you could easily
spend 30k more geting fancy.someone who has actually
finished theirs may be alittle more accurate than me.
I'mstill waiting to get my kit.It's been on order for six months
and no firm word on when it will ship so lead time on these
seem to be an issue.However they are a very fun plane to fly.

There's got to be a wide range on this. I'm hoping to get through a wheels
rebel for $35k with minimal VFR, doing everything myself, and shopping
carefully. I bought someone else's started project which saved me a few
thou off the start. My final number will vary mostly on engine choice (new
or used) and then caving in to some goodies like a Dynon system, electronic
ignition one side, and hopefully not too much more! I think getting to
year #5 (i'm at 3.5) and a lot accomplished makes one feel like what was
once a splurge item is a worthwhile add, and the other justification that
those additions probably just reflect back in resale value anyway.

For what it's worth, I completed my Rebel on wheels in 2001 for a total cost
of $50,000 Cdn. This was with a used sort of rebuilt 320 and very basic VFR.
Self painted using an existing hand held radio. I do not want to rain on
anyone's parade but $35,000 sounds like a bit of a dream, unless you got
that Rebel real cheap?? If you are now talking Dynons and the like, lots of
luck. There is a great article in the latest kitplanes(April)regarding
"glass cockpit" options. Well worth the read. To sum it up - do you want to
play with gadgets of have fun flying. Best regards to all. Bob J

Sorry, but that's exactly what I want, to play with gadgets while I'm having
fun flying! Now my C150 is about as basic as you can get while having an
electrical system... but being a bit of an uber geek, I sure like my
gadgets, and will have all that I can in my Moose.

I was able to build my rebel with an 0-290 and amphib floats for less than
$40k so with careful scrounging it's not completely unrealistic. To get
mine so cheap I bought a tri-pacer project for the engine and instruments
then sold the airframe for almost the origional cost. I'm up over $55k now
though with a NEW 0-320 on the nose. Also note I started in 1993 and prices
have gone up a lot since then.

For another (high) data point, I will have well north of $75K US in 254R
when it's done, hopefully late this summer. That includes buying the
partially completed project, then adding a new Jabiru 3300 engine &
Sensenich prop, Fife tips, backup B&C alternator & regulator, Oregon Aero
seats, overhead "Y" seat belts, LED NAV & landing lights, electric flaps,
and more than $30K of avionics and A/P, among other "gadgets".

Plus paint, eventually! :-)

LOL I'm with Ron on the hours tally....I sorta gave up keeping track,,,wasn't good for my progress.

Ron I definately want a report on that Jabiru engine when you get some figures on how well it works on the Rebel.

I don't know about the Rebel ,, but after much research a person can come up
with a guide line, but that will more then likely go out the window with
time. As prices increase, a person has to have what the Jones do, just the
be neat things to have , and always looking to better something. When I
started my Moose project , wasn't gonna do what everybody said has had
happen to them well that lasted a long time. I would hate to actually know
what I have in my project. I am not going to add it up that way if my wife
ever ask me I won't be telling her a fib when I say I don't know...but I can
tell you it is NO where near what I was gonna spend to build it. But I can
tell you I am not sorry I did what I did.. JMHO Dale SR-033 N269DF

Aye. Well, I've taken so much static about the Jabiru choice here that if it
doesn't work well, you won't hear a thing. I'll just fade away. On the other
hand, if it works well (whether on the first prop or the third) you'll get
an earful, and another, and another.... :-)

Yes,, I got the chcck , but I don't cash them till I ship the part and it
shipped yesterday by USPS and the check went to the bank yesterday.
The Moose is in the paint shop when I get it back and assemble it I
will post photos,if the finished product looks as my pictures I drew up I
will not have any worry about the cost, and if it goes as planned you will
