[rebel-builders] Rebel instrument panel

Cris,
I would think it would be simple to fabricate. If someone has one that hasn't been installed yet it would be easy to trace and reproduce. From what I remember it is pretty flat with a couple of bends. If you still are looking in a couple of months I can trace mine for you. I am currently in Hawaii but getting transfered out of here the end of the month and I should be back on my farm (where my Rebel kit is) around the first of April.

I plan on installing a conventional opposed engine. I wish to fabricate a standard Rebel instr. panel out of 6061. It would seem I could do so with just two measurements. The height of the panel, excluding the channel on the bottom, and the width of the center section of panel. Or should I just order one from Murphy and cease building for two weeks? Any help would be appreciated. Cris 719R

Cris,

It could probably be fabricated locally, but quality construction should be good, it is a structural part.

i will measure all distances and angles for you, I am having lots of trouble
getting spares from MAM I need 2 x Fus 5 2" lower carry through they dont
have them and wont tell me when they might have them!! ah well, Peter G-CBFK

Peter, If the height of the instrument panel is 10 1/4" tall, All that is needed is the offset measurement. How far forward does the center section of the panel protrude?
If I had that measurement the angles for the sides of the panel would work out correctly. My local aircraft shop, where the Rebel is being built has an aluminum brake. Thank you for your help. Cris 719R

[rebel-builders] Rebel instrument panel

Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:26 pm

The ELITE instrument panel is a nice piece of workmanship. It is rounded on the top similar to an older Luscombe or Talorcraft. It does not have as much forward offset as the standard Rebel panel. This means the instruments in the center section would be appx. four inches closer to the pilot. If I recall, the ELITE aircraft was designed to have the firewall built 3-4 inches further back, to accommodate larger engines. This might explain why the ELITE panel has very little forward offset.

[rebel-builders] Rebel instrument panel

If I was making my own I'd consider making it a little taller so that the
instruments would fit better. There's tons of kneeroom so that's not an
issue. I'd also put in about an inch less offset so that radios would have
enough depth. The only problem I can see is you might have to bend the
sticks a bit to clear the panel.

Subject: [rebel-builders] Rebel instrument panel

I am the third owner of Rebel kit #719R .The wings are completed, tail
complete, fuselage completed
up to the instrument panel. Did NOT install instrument panel. I noticed
it was an ELITE panel, (rounded on top). The ELITE panel was shipped in
the orig. kit due to the fact that the orig. owner had intended to outfit
the Rebel with the Rotec 7cyl. radial engine.
I plan on installing a conventional opposed engine. I wish to fabricate a
standard Rebel instr. panel out of 6061. It would seem I could do so with
just two measurements. The height of the panel, excluding the channel on
the bottom, and the width of the center section of panel. Or should I just
order one from Murphy and cease building for two weeks? Any help would be
appreciated. Cris 719R

Craig Walls, Thank you, but not interested in trading. I plan on fabricating instr. panel
2 inches taller than stock to allow for lower channel to be mounted behind it. If you are interested in the Elite panel please contact me and I will take a few pics with camera and email them direct to you.

The ELITE instrument panel is a nice piece of workmanship. It is rounded
on the top similar to an older Luscombe or Talorcraft. It does not have as
much forward offset as the standard Rebel panel. This means the instruments
in the center section would be appx. four inches closer to the pilot. If I
recall, the ELITE aircraft was designed to have the firewall built 3-4
inches further back, to accommodate larger engines. This might explain why
the ELITE panel has very little forward offset.

If I had that measurement the angles for the sides of the panel would work

Hi!

Thanks for the reply. I am interested in the panel. I like the rounded
look better than the flat. Any idea what you'd want for it? I have the
split flap/aileron conversion kit that I don't plan to use. Would you be
interested in a trade? Craig

[rebel-builders] Rebel instrument panel

Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:26 pm
by Karen McCaffery
Craig, I received detailed drawings from Peter on the standard Rebel panel. The drawings show the standard panel is made up from .032 material. The Elite panel measures .040 and seems fairly rigid. So I fabricated a duplicate of the standard panel
out of .040 and now have it installed. Yes, I will sell the Elite panel to you. I do not know exactly what to sell it for. Will you contact me on my cell phone (205) 529-7009 so we can determine what is fair and discuss payment and shipping. Or email me at my personal address at cristucker@webtv.net Cris
