[rebel-builders] Rebel - Fus 10
Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:21 pm
Hi Peter !
Somewhere in the past 10 years, Murphy started shipping
FUS-70's for the lower front 2 corner wraps. The original FUS-10's
were .020, and adequate, if you didn't dent them.... I had a small
dent in mine that turned into a 3" crack within a month !!
Many builders now order their kits with ALL of the FUS-10's
upgraded to FUS-70's (8 total) - adds a little weight, but Wayne has
observed several Rebels with crushed upper rear FUS-10's,
after VERY hard landings .... A worthwhile upgrade if you
haven't reached that point in building yet.
The factory also have even heavier corner wraps - .032 -
for the Elite. Think these are FUS-454 (???) - some have tried
to use these on the Rebel, but found the stiff metal a bit too hard
to work with.... FUS-10, FUS-70, and FUS-454(??) are ALL
the same size & shape.
One Ontario mod you might want, though, is to replace the
FUS-26 - flat panel below the door - with a copy in .032 or
.040, plus adding a couple of vertical stringers or channels
to the inside, to stiffen it up. This area bows out on floats ....
(Some builders just epoxy & rivet a second FUS-26 over
top of the original.)
