[rebel-builders] prop bolt question

Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:21 pm
by Robert Andrews
Hi John,

Recommend consulting the local prop shop ... if the holes can be reamed to
1/2", they would know, and be the ones to do it.

Would NOT recommend you do anything to the prop yourself.

If possible, will you email me a picture of your amphib ...
robert@montanasky.us ... thanks in advance.

Cheers, Bob 612e

out problem is the bolt hole size on the Mcauley is
3/8 and the engine is set ip for 1/2 inch. Can anybody

Thanks Robert Agree 100% I would not consider any
mods outside of a
prop shop. Sent you some pics more later.

[rebel-builders] prop bolt question

John

Don't drill out the prop. I had the exact same problem. If you have axcess
to a lathe you can make a
set of inserts out of 4130 and tap them for 3/8 bolts. You use to be able to
by them , they are quite expensive but I have not seen them adverstized
lately.
Charlie E.
also purchase them from some aircraft supply.

[rebel-builders] prop bolt question

Any engine shop can supply you with a proper set of prop flange bushings
with 3/8 threads for your engine. Tap the 1/2" ones out and install the 3/8
ones. They do generally run about $40 a piece though.
