Yes Jason that gives you enough to finish the cables when cut to that length
at least it did for me.. Watch ebay you can buy the nicopress for a lot

I used the small nico-press tool for all of my cables. It is not the
handiest to manipulate in some places, but if used carefully, produced good
swedges. Tighten bolts alternately, in small increments, until fully
seated. Also make sure that you place the jaws carefully and accurately on
the barrel, in order to get the compression in the required places. Having
an extra long box end wrench (more leverage) is helpful as well as having an
extra set of hands to help hold everything in the correct place. A small
bit of lubricant on the bolt threads also helps the tightening process.

I picked up a commercial tool (looks rather like a big bolt cutter) from
Home Depot for about $50. but I have other uses for it as well such as
fences. The go/no-go gauge will tell you that you have a good "squeeze"
with either tool.

I agree with Wayne. I tried the cheapo tool first and quickly began looking
for someone with a proper tool to borrow, and found one. I would even do
the "buy-one, use-it, then sell-it" method Wayne describes if doing it
again.

Added weight/expense for no gain in pull strength. Most did it to bury the
open end of the cable and IMHO this then brings up a safety issue that you
can see if the tail has slipped. I leave all my cables with an overlength
tail when swagging. This way the cable won't unroll as the sleeve
tightens,as it does if you cut to length first. I then put a heat shrink
tube over the tail end...shrink it and then clip with proper cable cutters
leaving about a 3/8 tail. Then you slip a larger heat shrink over both
cables to make a clean..prick free assembly. Being consistant with all your
tail end lengths makes preflight inspects and annual inspects a no brainer
when checking the cables.

I'm definitely with Wayne... It's not an area to cut corners. My inspector
also made me change the supplied sleeves with zinc ones as it's stainless
cable. The go/nogo gauge is also critical as it tells you the squeeze is
sufficient. Check the correct order of squeezing as well, not simply 3
squeezes per sleeve.

I agree with Wayne. I tried the cheapo tool first and quickly began looking
for someone with a proper tool to borrow, and found one. I would even do
the "buy-one, use-it, then sell-it" method Wayne describes if doing it
again.

Just remember that your life depends on those Nico swags ! Not a place to
cut corners. Beg or borrow the correct tool if you don't want to purchase.
Another option is to purchase, use and then cut your losses reselling on
Ebay.

Chapter 12, no 5: "Cut two lengths of 94" cable".

Does this allow for extra cable for making up the
Nico-pressed ends? I am not to the point of running
cables, but I want to assemble my control column
torque tube assembly.

Also, has anyone used one of the economy nicropress
swaging tools? Aircraft Spruce has one (Part no
12-12000) for $18 that applies pressure using bolts vs
paying $235 for the heavy duty swager.
