[rebel-builders] Engine change

May be part of it, but I don't think Mark even got to the point of showing
him the log entries before he was lambasted with this nonsense. I "looked
into" what the TC office does in that area and they seem to have a hate for
AB's. A year ago their superintendent ramp checked an Ontario Lancair and
grounded it because it had a cargo door THAT HAD BEEN INSTALLED AND
INSPECTED BY MDRA during construction. 90 hours later they decided that this
was not as per the manufacturer so it should be removed. He lifted the
flight authority leaving the guy stranded.

As of tonight Mark has tracked down John Bruneau. He is supplying an
affidavit to state he built the aircraft exactly to MAM's manual. Then the
manual can be used as the supporting data along with pictures showing that
the Subaru came off and the Lyco went on to the same firewall bolts. He then
has to supply a Major Mod form, that you would do on a certified airplane,
and he has to list EVERY part that was used in the engine installation right
down to the throttle and mixture cables! Then he MIGHT get a C of A and he
already knows he will be restricted to 25 miles/25 hours again... even
though this engine came right off Walters flying Rebel complete except for
the oil cooler. Walter shipped it to me still on the mount... with exhaust
and air intake box still attached even.

Is it possible he is being hit with a case of "the work wasn't done
here"? I've seen ridiculous nonsense because an out of town electrician
did the work. Some jurisdictions are very protective and have even been
known to tear down a federal building because the bricks were made
somewhere else...

FAA and TC are both running amuck these days. I just did a Subaru to
Lycoming change over on a Rebel (complete FWF as removed from a flying
Rebel) and the owner took it back to Quebec..resinstalled the wings, did
his
W&B and took all the paperwork to his TC office (exactly as laid out on
the
TC website for an engine change). "Sorry" they said... "it's not a Murphy
Rebel.. it's a John Bruneau (because he built it) and we need you to show
us
STC's for a Subaru powered John Bruneau allowing a Lycoming installation
and
all the engineering data that goes along with it...... before we can give
you a new CofA". And I thought Drew got screwed around 2 years ago by the
London office. He got a cake walk in comparison to this cluster f !

[rebel-builders] Engine change

Hi Guys
Sounds like you folks are beginning to be hit by the type of moron we have
had over here for years :-(
3 years on and I'm still waiting for approval to fit a doubler under the VHF
aerial in the roof of my Elite (and $60 per application) - it's no wonder so
many builders over here do stuff and tell no-one, often compromising safety
as a result !!!
