Noticed it the other day..and thought to myself you're shooting yourself in
the foot, in the USA, promoting (in public) how much was professionally
built. If it's registerd homebuilt/experiental the buyer could very well get
a lawn ornament if the FAA reads your advertisment and make mental note of
it. They and the EAA are working REALLY hard on shutting down all pro built
facilities/aircraft and have even gone as far in recent months to screw with
our Canadian building rules to the point that we can't use any major parts
from a certified aircraft anymore up here to build an amateur built
aircraft.

FAA and TC are both running amuck these days. I just did a Subaru to
Lycoming change over on a Rebel (complete FWF as removed from a flying
Rebel) and the owner took it back to Quebec..resinstalled the wings, did his
W&B and took all the paperwork to his TC office (exactly as laid out on the
TC website for an engine change). "Sorry" they said... "it's not a Murphy
Rebel.. it's a John Bruneau (because he built it) and we need you to show us
STC's for a Subaru powered John Bruneau allowing a Lycoming installation and
all the engineering data that goes along with it...... before we can give
you a new CofA". And I thought Drew got screwed around 2 years ago by the
London office. He got a cake walk in comparison to this cluster f !

Hey guys,

Just listed my Moose on Barnstormers.com.

I also have two unwrapped tinted bubble windows (the big ones, pilot and
copilot windows) for sale.

Wayne,

I don't know anything about shooting myself, but I do know that my airworthiness certificate says the builder is Murphy Aircraft Manufacturing. That was one of the reasons I decided to buy the airframe.

I am not saying it is not "experimental".

I knew the "not homebuilt" tag might piss some people off but the truth is that it was built by professionals and that is all my listing says. The M14 was installed by a former Murphy employee who has done over 15 M14 instalations.........under direct supervision of a FAA certified airframe/powerplant/avionics inspector.

I think that will bring me top dollar don't you?

Are you against Moose's selling for 200K? I should think not.

I hope you get as much as you can for it. I'm just offering caution,
considering the current turmoil in the homebuilt category and would hate to
see someone end up grounded or in the exhibition category with their
experimental/homebuilt...and the flight restrictions that go with that
category.

I have no issues with you getting $200K for a Moose...when I've received
$135K for a Rebel ! ;O) Neither price for either aircraft covers much more
than the parts.

The good news (sort of) is that the FAA is being cut back more and more. A
very good friend has been an FAA inspector in the San Francisco Bay Area for
many years and he says the work is steady but the work force is not.
Washington apparently wants the FAA to do more with less. They probably
won't have the time or manpower to pursue a lowly little Moose transaction.

Is it possible he is being hit with a case of "the work wasn't done
here"? I've seen ridiculous nonsense because an out of town electrician
did the work. Some jurisdictions are very protective and have even been
known to tear down a federal building because the bricks were made
somewhere else...

I've sure thought there must be a lot of this, and it is my hope too. Some
evidence to support the idea is that FAA never had the time to keep US
ultralights in check (until LSA). And the general public would much rather
have FAA assuring 737's stay one piece, airport TSA doing their job,
airspace unclogged, etc. They have their work cut out and then some before
getting all outa joint over homebuilt engine changes or other heavy
meddling. I would however still strive to have a pretty solid 51% build log.

PS: I will have spent all my spare time over the last few weeks trying to
get all the ducks in a row for hopefully an 11th hour inspection and
approval for UL to ELSA on my Kolb ultralight. I have had way too many
distractions from working on my Rebel!

I have just completed getting my Earthstar Odyssey certified as
ELSA and I was surprised as to how easy it was. Just had to install
a ELT, put stickers designating 'Light Sport' and 'Experimental' on
the outside, put on the numbers that I got from the FAA, and pay
$450 for the certification. (They have been charging $250 for regular
experimental home builts in the area.) They really take advantage of
one as there is a limited number of qualified DAR's (for LSA) in the
area. Hope you have better luck with your Kolb.
