Hey Ted,
Actually here at Thomas's at the moment, and have been running the Chezc prop. He will tell you all about it.

[rebel-builders] MT prop

IVO a division of MT? That's news to me. I can't find anything on the web
about that. IVO is based in California. Ivo Zdarsky, the founder, is from
Czechoslovakia but this all started with his escape from Communist
Czechoslovakia in an ultralight pushed along with a prop he made.

I have an IVO 84" 3-bladed, electric pitch control with constant speed
computer, Magnum airboat paddle prop on my V8 Super Rebel. I have good and
bad opinions of the prop. The good is that it is an extremely simply design
and assembly and is very light (28 pounds). It works well as advertised.
However, I have had trouble with the multiple plates that make up the
electric pitch control assembly. If you disassemble and reassemble, the
bolts bind on the plates and end up cutting threads into the aluminum
plates. Sometimes, the bolts are very difficult to remove and reinstall.
Aluminum gets inbedded into the bolt threads and that has to be cleaned out.
This also caused some minor damage to the threads in the prop hub that had
to be repaired with a tap. Smoothing out the holes in the plates has
certainly caused the holes to become enlarged. Unfortunately, the whole
thing has to be removed and reassembled multiple times to set up the pitch
stops properly.

Also, the electric brush assembly could be done much better. I have already
broken one of the flimsy plastic assemblies. And the electrical connectors
are some sort of weird size. I could not find a paddle connector that would
fit properly on the brush assembly. I ended up making my own connector,
soldered it in place, and covered the whole thing with household Goo to seal
it from the elements and to further ensure that it won't become
disconnected.

I have yet to observe this with the low time I have on the prop but a friend
of mine who ran the exact same prop on his airboat for a while reported that
the stainless steel leading edge tape eventually becomes detached.

Mike

Hi Brian !

If that's the Avia I remember, it had a really slick way of giving
constant speed - without an engine-driven governor ! They had
a pump inside a free-turning spinner outer shell, with vanes on it.
The faster you flew, the faster the spinner turned, and that increased
pumping, and the pitch for faster cruise ! Brilliant, simple, and
light ....

Thought the company had a bright future - until they were
bought out .... glad to hear it's in production at last !

Hey Bob,
This beauty uses the Russian governor, or their own, and has been tested on the Yak 18 (which I understand they made it for as the Russians are remanufacturing a bunch).
Huge paddle blades, and to remove the blades one clamp bolt and they unscrew!!!
