Ralph,

I have thought of "remote mounting" in that way a few times, but haven't
done it yet. You put the adhesive on the mating surface of the nutplate
first, and it does set up pretty quickly, so I think you'd want to
practice the threading operation a time or two first, at least to the
point of just starting the silicone rubber stick into the hole.

Another problem may be that the adhesive requires a fairly clean
surface. The small batch adhesive kits come with a little wipe of
special humdinger solvent that's used to clean the surface. In a hard to
reach spot, you may be able to dab off light dust or dirt with a stick
of some kind, but removing previously applied chromate or other primer
might be tough. If there may be a problem preparing the surface, check
with the dealer. They may have a technique you could try.

One other general caution: the small adhesive packs have expiration
dates. They're for real. I once tried to use one that was 6 mos. past
expiration. The adhesive didn't have the usual powerful aromatic whiff
going on <g> and sure enough, it was the only time I've had a failure.
It took a lot of heat from the heat gun to clean it off and start over
with fresh adhesive.

All that aside, for a standard nutplate application, where you can get
at the application side, these things are a snap to use.

Obviously, I'm a big fan. I plan to use the tie wrap pads for wiring --
much stronger than the stick on type. I also may use the small nutplates
for wing/elevator/rudder tip attachments under the metal soon, and will
test the "hole protector" grommet rings for the top of the composites,
under low profile flat or oval head screws.

Ron,
I think you just saved me about 30 hours! My left wing flap and aileron hinges were overtorqued (memory crash) and I have put off fixing it because of the access dificulty. Now, with the nutplates it looks like I can thread a pull line from outside, attach it to the nutplate stem and pull it through without additional metal work. Success to be determined but it is a bright ray of hope. Yipppeeee!

Happy New Year all!
