[rebel-builders] a question about an Engine

Hello Scott,

I'd sure like to hear more about why you think a "regular" engine is safer
than the M-14. Just think of the conditions those Russians operate the M-14
in! Radials, in my opinion at least, are far more reliable. But, there are
probably opinions all over the board out there! Email more detail if you
would please. In the meantime, I'm sticking with the radial:

- Safer
- More reliable
- Less expensive to purchase, maintain and rebuild
- Sounds SEXY!
- Turns heads!

Thanks,

Ted

Hello there folks,

I know it's been a while since I wrote I have been very busy reading
aviation type material plus working on my program for people who are blind
to fly. But I ran acrossed an engine I am especially interested in and
would like to know if anyone has tried it. It's the TCM IO360Kb. If I am
not mistaking from my reading it looks to be the same as the Lycoming but I
have to be different it's just in my nature. Grin! Has anyone had any luck
with this engine or installing anything other than the Lycoming. People are
probably wondering why I walked away from the M14P. Well the main reason is
safety. By doing some research I found I would be better off and more
protected with a regular engine rather than a radial engine. Thanks for the
answers.

Scott

[rebel-builders] a question about an Engine

Last summer, at Arlington, I saw Dick's (forgot his last name) amphib Rebel
with the 6 cyl 210 HP TCM IO360. Should be more than adequate power for the
Rebel, but would not be enough for the Moose, IMHO.

Wouldn't probably be enough for the Moose but should fit the Yukon aircraft
ok... Dale SR-033

Hi Scott I assume you're building a moose since you were looking at the
M14P. I don't think you'd get enough power from the continental to have a
very usefull plane. As for safety from what I've read the M14P is one of
the safest engines out there. Also consider engine failure is very rare
much more common is a failure of an accessory that will bring you down. The
instalation of the M14 is well worked out and documented plus there's
several guys here to answer questions. If you decide to pioneer a
continental instalation you'll be pretty much on your own and your risk
factor will be way higher.
