Fin Install clearance

How much clearance should I allow between the bottom of the fin and the top of the fuselage? Figure 12.4.4 in my manual implies that the fin is not flush to the fuselage but there are no dimensions given. On the subject of fins, is the extended fin recommended for extra stability when on floats? I see pictures of some with and some without.
