Just wanted to send everyone a note to let you know that the Murphy Rebel
mailing lists are back up and running. I've got it back on the original
server, now residing in Charlotte NC, graciously hosted by one of the
members of our list, Mr. Fred Darnell. I would just like to take a moment
to say thank you Fred for providing a home for this list.
I also want to apologize for the down time, I don't know about the rest of
you, but I went through some serious withdrawal! I sure miss having a
server totally under my own control. Fred's company, Biopop Integration
Group, looks to be a first class operation. So, as long as I can keep my
server running, I don't think we're likely to run into anymore network
problems.
That's all.... everybody start sharing that good information again!

I would also like to thank Mike, Fred and Wray for their efforts on the
Rebel forum. Yes, I was starting to experience withdrawals. Call me
crazy but I like to know about problems before I get there and make them
myself.

Before the server went down there was a brief exchange on connectors. I
promised to respond with additional data but the message was returned. I
responded privately to the initial authors but saved the message to put
out for the rest of the group.

(whereRyan,
People have installed eyebolts in the main carrythrough, BIMHOpinion (for
what it's worth), this weakens the structure where you really don't want to
weaken it!
I lift the aircraft by removing the fairing at the carrythrough stubs
2forward wing spar attaches to the fuselage.) I lift by using approximately
-foot long cables with thimbles that are big enough for a 3/8th bolt. The
bolt is put below the carrythrough with a cable thimble for and aft of the
carrythrough. Tighten the bolt so that the cable assembly can't slip past
the wing attach bolt. I use 2 chain falls so the lift is straight up and
this is especially helpfull for getting things square on the initial
installation. You will need to do a balancing act or have a lift for the
tail also. I have a walk behind fork truck that I use to balance the tail
weight.

whenAll,
Has anybody installed eye bolts to the fuslage to hoist the Rebel in order
to work on the floats? I believe this was a recent thread but with our
latest trip to the San Juan Islands (us/Canada), we saw lots of seaplanes
and they all had 4 eyebolts on the top of the fuse. Owners told us that
this was to hoist the plane in the air to work on bottom side of floatsnecessary. Just wondering what was out there

Richard,
Sorry for the delay in finding you an answer. Unfortunately the
responsibility for cables has been "outsourced" to a supplier and I
couldn't find the reference materials I was looking for.
After I read David Fife's message though I thought he is right in
his approach. Years ago when I worked at Grimes (aircraft lighting)
we used Molex connectors, Whelen ships Molex connectors on and with
their products and the other day when I was looking through the
flying clubs Cessna 172 I saw several Molex connectors in use. They
have been in use on "certified" products for many years so they
should serve us well.
So you don't have to shop through a bunch of hobby shops, try
Digi-Key. I have a 1996 catalog that has a good assortment of crimp
or soldr pin, single or multi-pin connectors.
The catalog lists a website at http://www.digikey.com or a telephone
number of 800.344.4539. There was no minimum order but there was an
adder if the order is less than $25.
I accessed the webite while I was putting this message together to
make sure I wasn't giving you out dated information. Digi-Key gives
you a choice of a US or Canadian website so most of us should be
able to order without a customs hassle. The site has a catalog,
stock status, and an on-line order form.
Hope this helps,
Terry McClary

Richard,
I recently red your message re: connectors. In the
past I have used a "molex"connector. These are used
on radio controlled airplanes and cars. They are
available through hobby shops. Cost about 6.00 a
pair. Give it a try.
