Welcome in the Canadian Club! For years the Rotax, and also every american made engine, were very expensive in canadian dollars... now
we feel better!

Hello All

I am sure that everyone who is interested in the Rotax engine to power their
Rebel is aware that (mainly due to the devaluation of the dollar) they have
had a sizeable price increase. Before Oshkosh 07 it was priced at a little
under $14,000 now the price is $18,122. Plus $1500 for accessories. I was
told by LEAF that there probably will be another in crease at the first of
the year. My goal was to build light enough that I could certify at 1,320
Lbs. Gross Wt. This increase in price has given me cause to go back and
look at potentially cheaper engines like the Cont. 0-200 and the Lyc 0-235.
Unlike the Rotax they can be purchased used or rebuilt at considerable
savings. I would appreciate comments from anyone flying Rebels with these
power plants.

[rebel-builders] Rotax price increase

I wonder what the cost would be having a friend buy one in Europe ($Euro),
adding import and shipping costs. At least it seems one need not be bound
to buying an Austrian engine with American dollars. On a related note,
there is a guy at our local airport disassembling a couple of small GA
planes every few months. He's loading them into shipping containers to
sell in Australia. It's depressing. At least the US stock market is
holding (for now).

[rebel-builders] Rotax price increase

Another option might be the new Cont O-200D which has been lightened for
LSA. This is the engine that Cessna has chosen for the new C162 Skycatcher.

Used to be lots of cheap (4-5000 bucks) older O-200s around. I have feeling
they could become a lot more popular now with the new 912S pricing.

If you are not restricted to 1320 pounds, certainly lots of 320s around for
less than a new 912S.
