[rebel-builders] Rebel- Inner rear floor usefullness

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:10 pm

Hi Dave !

It's not a case of usefullness - it's a matter of safety !!
You REALLY NEED that inner floor !!

It makes a box beam out of the lower tailcone, greatly
increasing its strength ! If you leave it out, you will
eventually end up with creases, and a sag in the middle
of the fuselage ! This has been tested, and there are
sad cases in the field !!!

There's no question - put it in !

How useful is the inner rear floor? I would suspect that it is not much
use for luggage because of weight and balance limitations and as far as
sleeping in the aircraft goes you would probably be more comfortable in a
tent. My tailcone is already built so adding the inner rear floor will
entail a fair bit of work as well as drilling out a bunch of rivets. I'm
contemplating just putting in part of the rear inner floor behind the
baggage area to give additional space for light items like lawn chairs or
foam mattresses. I'd appreciate hearing from builders who have put the
floor in on their experiences on its' usefullness.
