Well, I am really struggling with this fin. This is as much a venting as it
is a cry for help. I have built the dang thing twice now; two front spars,
two rear spars, 2 sets of ribs, etc. The first time I had it together
except for the leading edge skin but didn't rivet it because it wouldn't lie
flat. I decided I was pulling it up or out of shape with the skin so I
remade the ribs and spars (save the skins!).



Today I had it pretty flat and riveted one skin on but the other side was a
#%#@!! and the second set of L E skin holes didn't match up and actually,
skin didn't perfectly match the ribs and spars either. Looks like I'll be
paying MAM a visit for some parts/pieces.



I'm using lots of clecos, working carefully, etc. It's quite a job getting
the edges to match up with all of those creases in the skin. There must be
some trick to building ribs and spars accurately when they don't even lie
flat on the skin!



The worst of it is that I read ahead and I know there's pretty much more of
the same thing in the rest of the control surfaces section!

I bought my project with completed his tail pieces, so can only offer
sympathy. The original owner had told me that after finishing his first
control surface, it took a flight of it's own across the workshop. Landing
was loud and unsightly, complimenting the choice words at send-off. ;)

Don't worry, you'll get in the groove.
