Hoisting Da Rebel

All,

Has anybody installed eye bolts to the fuslage to hoist the Rebel in order
to work on the floats? I believe this was a recent thread but with our
latest trip to the San Juan Islands (us/Canada), we saw lots of seaplanes
and they all had 4 eyebolts on the top of the fuse. Owners told us that
this was to hoist the plane in the air to work on bottom side of floats when
necessary. Just wondering what was out there

Ryan,

People have installed eyebolts in the main carrythrough, BIMHOpinion (for
what it's worth), this weakens the structure where you really don't want to
weaken it!

I lift the aircraft by removing the fairing at the carrythrough stubs
(where
forward wing spar attaches to the fuselage.) I lift by using approximately
2
foot long cables with thimbles that are big enough for a 3/8th bolt. The
bolt is put below the carrythrough with a cable thimble for and aft of the
carrythrough. Tighten the bolt so that the cable assembly can't slip past
the wing attach bolt. I use 2 chain falls so the lift is straight up and
this is especially helpfull for getting things square on the initial
installation. You will need to do a balancing act or have a lift for the
tail also. I have a walk behind fork truck that I use to balance the tail
weight.

Blue skies,
