[rebel-builders] 8.50 tires on JDM wheels

The bent stem tubes are apparently not aircraft tubes Jesse. I've
purchased them from MAM and the unltralight store in Vernon. Don't know
about 8.5 but the 6.0 wide ones are available at Walmart, farm supply
stores, etc. Carlisle is a popular manufacturer.

Hi all,
I got some Goodyear 8.50 X 6 tires with Aero Classic tubes. The tubes have straight valve stems. I don't see how this combo will work. Can anyone offer some advice? Do I need to get an angled valve stem adapter? A salesman at Desser tire just told me there is not an 8.50 tube with an angled valve stem. Is going tubeless an option?
Thanks.

[rebel-builders] 8.50 tires on JDM wheels

Thanks Ken,
I guess nothing is simple in this hobby. I thought 8.50 aircraft tire, 8.50 aircraft tube...good to go. The problem is the nicely machined Murphy wheels don't quite match the "aircraft" norm when it comes to valve stems. Learning every day. I talked to Jeff at MAM who wasn't much help recommending tubes for my Goodyear tires. He said 8.50 tires are approved for the JDM wheels, and that's about it. He did say that they changed the wheels a couple years ago to take 45* stems instead of 90* because they were too hard to get consistently.
I did find the Carlisle 800x6 tubes quite ubiquitous on the web. Do you think they will work for 850s?
I have another mystery to solve. It never ends.
Thanks
Jesse

[rebel-builders] 8.50 tires on JDM wheels

Hi Jesse !

The Carlisle tubes should be ok .... You are using these
8.50's on the bungee gear ??? They do increase the braking
and landing loads .... You will notice a tendency to pitch
nose down on touchdown, so be prepared for the tail to
come up.... Not nearly as bad as with the tundra tires,
but noticeable.

They will also reduce cruise a bit - maybe 2 - 3 mph ...

Hi Jesse I got my carlisle tubes at my local car and farm tire store. For a
cheap tube they hold air quite well. I only need to top them up once every
2 or 3 months.

Thanks Bob and drew,
Drew, are you using 850 tires? If so, did you find Carlisle 850x6 tubes?
Bob, I am using the bungee gear, but plan on giving Wayne a measurement for die spring legs soon.

Hi Jesse I''m using 8.00x6 carlisle tires. I think the same tubes should be
fine with your 8.50's though. For the price it's worth trying them I think
they were about $15.

800x6 should be fine.
The rule is go smaller but never an over large tube that might wrinkle
or fold.
I also like to inflate then let all the air out so it can reposition
itself and then inflate again. Talcum powder on it doesn't hurt either..
