Off topic: Proposed new border crossing requirements

Post by Ted Waltman » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:05 pm

I just uploaded a file (Adobe PDF format) in area 404-General Documentation
that describes new U.S. border crossing requirements. Though this article
is from the Canadian Owners & Pilots Association, it still has valid links
at the bottom of the text where you can provide your input to U.S.
regulators on this new onerous proposal.

The new requirements would force one to file a passenger manifest
electronically before any border crossing. I don't have to submit advance
electronic notice when crossing the border in my car--why the hell should I
have to when doing so in my plane? Furthermore, how do I do so when many
places don't even have access to the Internet?

I --strongly-- encourage each of you to read the document then follow the
procedures at the end of the document to submit your input on this B.S.
proposed reg change. I did--I hope you do too!

This will make it next to impossible to cross the border except from one
major airport (e.g. Calgary) to another (e.g. Kalispell). Flying from
somewhere such as Atlin or Carcross (in Canada) to Skagway (as I did in
2005) won't be possible at all. What a shame! Just more useless government
B.S..

Thank you,

Ted Waltman
