Welcome to the madness John ! First guy I've ever seen swapping out Amphibs
on a Rebel for straights...but if you want to do it contact me directly as I
have a guy in mind.

Subject: [rebel-builders] Amphibs

Just a quick note to everyone regarding 295R. I am another one of those
new inductees who purchased 295R from a guy in Flagstaff.
With the help of Garry Wright (thanks again Garry), as he said earlier,
it is now sitting in his hangar in High River. Started on the paperwork
and still awaiting a response.

As I can see, there will be some things to do but that's what this is all
about. Great exchange of ideas and opinions on this site. Enjoy the
stuff!!

I am intending to put it on straight floats as it will better suit my
purposes. I have the wheels if I choose to use them.

So therefore, I am wanting to sell the amphibs and purchase the best
option straight floats out there. Build them or buy them depending on the
price vs time thing.

Anyone interested in the amphibs just let me know or if someone has
straights and wants to make a deal - could try Door number 3 or is it 2 or
maybe one!!!

I would also like opinions on which floats are best suited - weight,
durability, load capacity etc. (and of course price) so that I can get the
maximum performance out the NEW MACHINE. That appears to be the goal of
most Rebellers. I had a share in a 180 for over 2 years so this is the
replacement. After flying it although not for long, I am quite satisfied
with what it will do.

My purposes are to use 295R as a hunting and fishing machine. Probably
located in Manitoba for the summer - have some great fishing spots just
over an hour away. Likely loaded near to max with a kicker motor, some
gear and shore lunch ability. Might be a bit of challenge on the hunting
trip to a caribou camp at the Territories border in northern Manitoba, so
I want to make sure before I do this, I can get what I need. According to
Garry, the a/c is heavier than FOKM because of the headliner, painted
floats, avionics but at this point my son, who flies for a living, likes
the stuff, so I'm okay with leaving it for now.

I just want to be ready for the next float season and make sure that I
don't miss any of the great days that are out there.

Also it was suggested that I go through all the ONTARIO MODS to make sure
this machine is up to standard - whatever that may be. Does anyone have an
updated list of those so that I can accomplish that task.

Well I'd appreciate the feedback.

John Peterson

Welcome John The Murphy floats are well suited to the plane so I'd suggest
keeping what you have and just remove the gear and hydraulics. I don't
think that there would be a significant gain by closing in the gear well
either.

Interesting idea Drew. The amphibs do have a blunter nose than straights
which might be off-putting a bit for a straight float guy. Your
suggestion certainly leaves a lot of flexibility with the plane for
future use though.

I imagine Murphy would sell straight float bumpers which would round the
nose if estetics are important.

[rebel-builders] Amphibs

Hey John---Glad to hear you got things going with T.C. on your import. Had
my T.C. inspection last week and have cleared a few "picky" snags ( inspector's
term ) that he found and am awaiting my C. of A. Should be flying next
week. I agree with Wayne...think about the amphibs in depth before you trade
them away. As a pilot with roughly 600 hours on straight floats I can relate to
you many, many reasons why I have gone to amphibs this time around! Bob.
