[rebel-builders] Rebel - Front floor doublers

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:01 pm

Hi Dave !

Ken's right on ! A bit of space between the channels will be needed
to pick up the rivets from the seat rails -- even if it does mean adding
another bracket, it's worth doing. .... and you definitely DO want to
rivet to the skins.

While you are in there, IF it's still open, it's a good idea to add
a couple of extra channels under the floor in the baggage area too -
it'll prevent dents later from suitcases ....

And a couple of extra small square tubes, running from the
large cross tube, forward to the firewall, will help stiffen up the
front end, and provide a platform for a sheet of .032 as a double
floor up front .... gets your heels up a bit, and feels a lot more
sturdy than just the outer skin. ;-)

Personally I would not bother doubling them if you are not going to
rivet to the skin. You might find that separating the second channel a
bit (space them apart) will make a better fit for the chair rails.

I took over Rebel 414 as a project. The front floor channels were built
without doubling as per the original plans. Current plans call for
doublers on front floor channels as well as three extra channels. Do I
need to rivet the doublers to the skin or am I just as well off to just
rivet the doubler to the existing channel? The doubled channel will be
rivetted to the existing bracket for the current single channel in any
case.

Thanks

Hello Bob

I am working in the front floor area (just behind the firewall)... Is there some pictures about the tubings you are talking about?

[rebel-builders] Rebel - Front floor doublers

I've posted a couple of pictures of the double front floor
in 206. Rebel Fuselage section of FILES. They show one
5/8" square tube in the center, and the 2 sections of floor,
held in with screws, for easy removal. Several builders
have added an extra tube to each side, between the rudder
pedals, for extra stiffness. The floor sections are fastened
to a channel on the corner wraps on the outsides.

Last pic shows it all covered with a custom carpet...
