[rebel-builders] Tire Sources

The way I remember, the ply rating on the tires is indicative of the
load the tires can support. Recalling for a 6x6.00, it was like
4 ply - 1200 lbs, 6 ply - 1800, and 8 ply - 2200 lbs. I suppose that
this varies by manufacturer but the ranges are about correct. So it
depends on the max load your plane will carry.

recently acquired SN 331. Attended the meeting in Brampton last month and
met a
number of you. I gained much valuable advice and learned that sources for
tires for Rebels were scarce, so went searching. My Rebel is on MAM amphibs
thus
I was
searching for front and main tires.
I found the following: Front tires--Carlisle 2.80 x 4 in a 4 ply with tube
available through a wholesale
distributor in Montreal for $25 (for both) through Ken Dillabough of
TIRECRAFT (613) 432-9955 or
800-711-4511 These tires and tubes are exactly what was on 331 when I
purchased her. Ken is located
in Renfrew, Ontario and a very helpful guy.
Main tires---Cheng Shin 11.400 x5 8 ply rated available through the new
Aircraft Spruce store 1760
Meyerside Drive, Mississauga 905-795-2278 or 877-795-2278. I bought 4
tires and 4 tubes for $134 and change. I cleaned out their stock and
required a
Back Order but their computer showed 302 tires and 302 tubes in their
California warehouse. Again, these tires are exactly what is installed on
331. I have
no news on tires for wheel only gear as I do not know the sizes. I would
check Aircraft Spruce first on that need, however. Bob Cressman
