Moving it aft would add weight since it would require additional
structure to move it off the cage. And it wouldn't really help since
you'd have to adjust the stick angle farther forward to get the same
range of movement before hitting the seat.

Even with a moved back firewall and seat I find it is just fine on the
cage and I can even put a map bag on the floor ahead of the seat. ($5.
from Princess Auto for a 12" x 6" bag with pockets) ;)
