Wing Question

Post by snowyrvr@mtaonline.net » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:20 pm

Does anyone know how I can check to see if my rebel kit #207 has the
upgraded wings? The seller told me he ordered it as a 1650 gross so it's
supposed to be. How do i tell?
Thanks Craig

Wing Question

Post by Craig Walls » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:26 pm

For anyone knows or remembers..I'm working on my first wing, the right one.
My old manual (1992) says to put the outboard L E rib flange edge flush with
the end of the main spar, which makes sense. My new manual says nothing
about it. When I flush the flange and edge of spar, the pre-drilled holes
are going to make holes in the L E flange that are too close to the inside
curve. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm assuming that the skins are
exactly the same length as the spar, haven't measured yet. If I centered
the holes like the rest of the ribs the flange ends up about 3/16" from the
edge.

Anyone?

Craig,
I had misfortunes here as well. I have some photos and notes at
http://mae.ucdavis.edu/ransom/Murphy/02.04/4.html

Good/Smart you are checking where the holes will end up! I found things
would have aligned correctly (flush with root rib as well as prepunched
holes being correct position) if I had swapped LE spars left for right. Of
course make sure you have them right side up too.

Wing Question

Post by Craig Walls » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:26 pm

Hello All,

I'm working on the torque tube in the wing. I'm at the point where I put a
sleeve, end cap and control horn on the outboard end of the tube. This is
the horn that will attach to the flaperon horns. The instructions say to
bolt a horn to the cap and do all the various drilling of holes in the
sleeve and end cap. When it comes time to assemble, the instructions don't
mention the bolt/nut at the end cap. I'm wondering if it's just an omission
or what. I can't imagine leaving the center hole empty. Also, if there is
a bolt, it would need a nut plate, right? Or is it like the others, and
require a wired bolt as a safety? I'll probably call Jeff on Monday unless
someone has a definitive answer. Wayne, are you out there? Anyone? Thanks
to all. Craig
