[rebel-builders] Drilling Motor mount holes

Post by Robert Johnson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:15 pm

Hi David: 1/ I have drilled two Rebel firewalls for the motor mount and will
also do the third I am currently working on prior to actually having the
mount. I have found there is enough flex in the mount arms to take care of
any small variances. The dimensions in the manual are quite accurate when
laid out on the firewall.
2/ As far as rivets, I have bought many from Avdel Div Of Textron Fastening
Systems Canada ltd. They are in Rexdale Ontario 416 679 0622 or 1 800 268
9947. they are great to deal with and will ship almost same day. I do not
know your location. but if this does not work for you , go on the internet
and do a search for Avex rivets, or call above and they will advise nearest
to you.
3/ The center brace was only required to support the thinner original sheet
lexan windshield and is not required for the preformed one.
4/ Seeing you have such an early kit number have you done the 1650 gross
weight mods and the ever so famous "Ontario float fix mods? Hope this
helps. - Bob J Rebel 192/731

Can anyone tell me? Is it ok to drill the firewall without having a
Lycoming
motor mount?
I have measured the locations per the manual and it says that I can drill
them without having a motor mount, but would be better if I had it? It
seems
like there is not enough room to drill after the firewall is installed?

Also can anyone help with a source for rivets? I need some rv 4412 , seems
like I don't have enough?
Also when installing the preformed windshield do you need to put the
center
brace in that goes from the cabin roof to the dash?
Thanks
Dave
