firewall mods

I have the firewall mod from Wayne and I have put the cross chanel from
right to left on the back and I have one going almost all the way on the
front. Is it ok to make these longer ? as in the over lap. Mine is quite a
bit longer than the 6" the mam says to.

I made them both about the same length but overlaped about maybe 10"s ?
Is this OK?
