Subject: [rebel-builders] Rebel elevator trim instructions

Hi all
I'm a very new - green builder quietly chipping away at the build
process.
I've been using the archived files on Mikes site for reference where
need be, they have been very helpful.
I am currently doing the trim on the elevator
The instructions show the hinge on top of both the elevator and trim
skins.
Is it possible to have the hinge between the spar and the skins?, i.e. a
clean flowing skin with the hinge underneath??
In NZ of the 5 or 6 rebels I have seen half are each way.
Apart from the instructions saying so has any one found a reason why the
hinge is / needs to be on top of the skins??
It looks cleaner and tidier underneath!
Comments please to the Kiwi Boy down-under!!!
Regards
Geoff van Asch Rebel 798

[rebel-builders] Rebel elevator trim instructions

Hi Geoff
FWIW putting the hinge on the bottom surface will make the electric
actuator even more sensitive and it is fairly sensitive already even
with the push rod in the outboard hole of the horn. Personally I think
it looks better with the hinge on the top surface but with the hinge pin
facing down if that is what you mean. I'd avoid putting the hinge on
the bottom with the pin side of the hinge facing down as that might
induce premature airflow separation in the full up position and I use
full up on every landing,...

G'day from OZ Geoff !

I cant see any reason why you can't "hide" the hinges ...

Obviously make sure that they will not bind or catch anywhere .... but I can't think of any structural differences / problems associated with the idea !

Hi Ken
I think we might be at cross purposes!
Hinge is still on top of the trim, but just under the skin.
Seems like the other responses to date seem OK with that, if anyone out
there isn't yell before I start making #40 holes bigger
Thanks
