Rebel elevator trim instructions

Hi all
I'm a very new - green builder quietly chipping away at the build
process.
I've been using the archived files on Mikes site for reference where
need be, they have been very helpful.
I am currently doing the trim on the elevator
The instructions show the hinge on top of both the elevator and trim
skins.
Is it possible to have the hinge between the spar and the skins?, i.e. a
clean flowing skin with the hinge underneath??
In NZ of the 5 or 6 rebels I have seen half are each way.
Apart from the instructions saying so has any one found a reason why the
hinge is / needs to be on top of the skins??
It looks cleaner and tidier underneath!
