Avmap EKP IV

I heard a story some time back - about a year - that someone was flying
with an Avmap EKP IV (thru the rocks no less) when their database
expired and the unit shut down. This sounds like an urban legend type
report but I'm interested because I want to make sure it does not happen
to me. My database is almost at the asserted 1 year expiry and it has
not happened to me yet. Anyone know of this report?
