I recently researched the subject of ANR vs standard headsets, and there is
no doubt that the ANR versions are well worth the extra. Just an
additional
tidbit as food for thought.
Bose and David Clark both have relatively new models, The Bose "X" at
$995US
and the Clark "X-11" at about $799US. Both of these are outstanding units
with low weight and minimal "clamping force." (Otherwise knows as what
makes
your head feel as though it were in a vise after being worn for a while.)
Both
these units use a lot of electronic wizardry (and owner dollars) to
provide
the active noise reduction.
I found that David Clark also had the H10-13X model at just about $550US.
Lightspeed has the 30-3G model for a similar price. Although slightly
"older"
models, they utilize the passive technology a bit more (sealing noise out
vs
canceling it electronically.) As a result, if they stop "actively"
canceling
noise, maybe because I forgot to bring out a new 9 volt battery to the
airport
today, they still do a better job of sealing out the noise then the newer,
more expensive models.
So far I have logged several flights, the longest about 3 straight hours
with my new David Clark 10-13XL.
I couldn't be happier.
