[rebel-builders] Fus-4 alignment

Post by Robert Johnson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:08 pm

Hi Ben: I have been though this 3 times now with Rebels and I would shim
what ever needed to be shimmed to achieve the squareness. As far as the
uprights being square to the table, I don't think is as critical as having
them parallel to the tail cone bulkheads or bulkhead F. This determines the
wing attach fitting spacing. I have always managed to get both sides
parallel and alike within 1/16. The cabin root rib helps achieve this also
providing you keep both sides the same. I hope this helps somewhat and I am
sure our experience man Wayne can add some tips. Bob J.

Hi all
I'm working on getting alignment of the Fus-4 with Fus-26 and Bulkhead F.
This is where the Fus-4 and carry-thru's are bolted upright to the table,
then the tail and Bulkhead A raised for alignment. My question is, what
kind of alignment tolerance is there?

Thanks Bob, I'll tweak and shim some more tonight. I realize I did get
carried away with measuring angle and haven't measured distance since early
in the alignment.

Hi Ben !

Just a reminder - while you're working there, to replace the FUS-26
with a copy that's .040 thick ... (or double it, with another FUS-26,
and lots of EP-430 in between ..). .... one of the 'Ontario Mods' .

Man...a fus CD would come in handy right now... ;O)

I cleco the side Fus-26's/25's etc to the carrythru and pull the tail back
with two wires and turnbuckles attached to my two drill presses (or the
wall) so it's tight..takes the waves out of the fus26/25 assembly. Fus-39
floor pan you keep on center line by driving a nail into your table on each
side of it.

[rebel-builders] Fus-4 alignment

Post by bransom » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:08 pm

Thanks all for your help!
I found Fus-4 will be parallel at approx 1/16" tolerance. Good! I need to
redial things in tho, as last night I ended up changing the blocking I had
under the tail to something more secure.

I had put some angle stock along the Fus 25/26 line to keep the waviness
out, and as well, was using it a little to help with the alignment. With
the angle stock cleco'd to Fus-26 I can see if the extension of the angle
stock is in line or high/low with the edge of Fus-25 ...for more than just
4 holes of overlap.

Not sure I'll be able to cable and turnbuckle as these would go over the
drier, where the tail is already now encroaching and indepting me further
to my wife! Or, perhaps I can convince her to enjoy the cables as a small
clothes line. :) I think my angle stock will do the trick. Thanks Bob on
the 040 reminder too!
