I just found the bulletin from April 10, 1996 from Murphy that set the
forward limit at 10.85" and the aft limit at 18.10".
Also the maintenance schedule was available on the web site.

By the way mine came in at 12.75 and 821 pounds with a Rotax 912 ULS.

Now I'm only missing a letter on the rudder cables?

Nice to see the web site working.

Thanks

Good day.
I had my inspection yesterday and things went pretty well.
There are a couple of pieces of paper that I need though to finish off this
week ( along with a few snags)

1- A letter or note from Murphy stating that the rudder cables that turn at
the rear of the cage a little more than 3 degrees is acceptable. (my
inspector knows that most Rebels only have the cable guides??)
2 - A letter from Murphy stating the fore and aft C of G, design
limitations for the Rebel. (my inspector said that this was a new request)

I wasn't sure if anyone had such a letter or bulletin, so that I don't have
to wait to track something down through Murphy on Tuesday with Monday being
a holiday here in Canada.

Hi Jim

I believe I put an angle bracket on each side of the slot in the top
door frame that the plastic protrudes down through. A bolt through the
plastic and the brackets is the pivot. Think I rivetted or bolted some
metal arms onto the plastic for the actuation mechanism. Both the
locking knob and the non locking knob came from Spaenaur. I can look up
part numbers if you like.

There is enough fiddling involved that you could probably speed things
up by just leaving the windows off and having it inspected without them.
ie you might add windows if it gets too cold for a snowmobile suit next
winter...

I work all weekend but could possibly arrange to drop by today if you
are there. Got to chop wood for a half day this morning or this
afternoon but I can "play" for part of today ;)

Hi Ken,
If you're out flying this weekend, I'd love to look at your window latches
again. It's one of the last things I have to do and I really like what
you've done on yours. I have one picture of your layout but I'm still having
trouble understanding the mechanism. Where are the pivot points - are there
two spots where the delrin joins the push piece?? Also where did you get the
nice knob - handle for the outside? Any help would be appreciated.

If you can't get the letter or install pulleys in time, I wonder if he
would accept an extra guide on each side such that there was no more
than a 3* bend at each guide. The rule is a bit silly when you compare
the generous 3/4" long curve on a Piper guide compared to the narrow
Murphy guide.

Congrats Jim: That is always an exciting hurtle to overcome: Sounds like you
did very well. You must be getting excited now for that 1st flight. I will
be very interested in your thoughts as I have also been considering the

Jim,

I hope your first flight preparations are going well. No doubt, a very
exciting time.

I think many of us trying to build a Rebel Lite would be very interested in
more details about what components, mods, and equipment you have along with
the 912 ULS. For example, what seats, vacuum system(?), spring gear or
conventional, extra windows, painted (inside/out), flaperons via Teleflex
or electric, what weight-adding mods, any special door design, steam guages
and/or avionics, battery(s), extra alternator, cowl design/material, prop,
wheels/tires, etc. No doubt there are other things that you chose to do --
or not -- that had an impact on weight.

When you have time, it would be very helpful if you can fill us in with as
much detail as you can. Maybe under a new subject line. But not until you
have time for the real priority -- to get it flying!

Thanks Ron, I will be happy to share once I have my first few flights under
my belt to make sure the cooling works and everything is fine.(there will be
something) I'm only waiting for the flight authority from Jamie Alexander
who said "he would try and get to it this week"????
It's my understanding that in all other jurisdictions in Canada that the
inspector that signs off on your final will give you the flight authority
right then and there - not so in Ontario.(please correct me if I'm wrong)
The paperwork has to go to the BOSS to check (why should that keep me out of
the air??) before he issues the flight authority. This is very frustrating
especially after all the work to get it this far and of course missing a
series of perfect flying days for the test flights.

The test flight went pretty well, not as great as I would have liked with a
couple of problems. It was a very hot and humid day (great to test the
limits) and unfortunately I did have a water over heating problem. Oil and
CHT were fine. We have a couple of easy things to do which should solve
that issue. Also two things with the prop - I have it pitched too course and
we didn't get full RPM - I had pitched it to get 5200 RPM on the ground,
thinking that when in motion it would raise the RPM up to the 5800 max but
we found that we really only got about 5350 so I need to re-pitch, but the
bigger issue is that on inspection after the flight Bob found a small "bite"
out of the trailing side of one prop blades with what looks like a little
de-lamination. I don't want to jump to conclusions until I get it off and
send it to Warp but it will be a few days to get a new one so we can
continue the test flying.

Other than that - "Rebel 333 Did Fly Yesterday!!!!"

Glad to hear it got in the air Jim! Despite the few issues.. As for
Warp..."a few days"... I hope so as I waited over 4 months, for three blades
for the f-in-laws 912S last year! I'd call him first and find out how fast
you're gonna get that fixed, or a new one back. You may find you're going
the 5 minute epoxy route and some black paint.

The test flight went pretty well, not as great as I would have liked with
a
couple of problems. It was a very hot and humid day (great to test the
limits) and unfortunately I did have a water over heating problem. Oil and
CHT were fine. We have a couple of easy things to do which should solve
that issue. Also two things with the prop - I have it pitched too course
and
we didn't get full RPM - I had pitched it to get 5200 RPM on the ground,
thinking that when in motion it would raise the RPM up to the 5800 max but
we found that we really only got about 5350 so I need to re-pitch, but the
bigger issue is that on inspection after the flight Bob found a small
"bite"
out of the trailing side of one prop blades with what looks like a little
de-lamination. I don't want to jump to conclusions until I get it off and
send it to Warp but it will be a few days to get a new one so we can
continue the test flying.

Other than that - "Rebel 333 Did Fly Yesterday!!!!"

Cheers

hi jim congratulations! you will get all those little issues worked out
in due time.

on the prop pitch that is a little strange 5200 to only 5350 what
muffler are you using? is it stock jetting for a 100 hp rotax?

I believe the difference should be in the area of 400 rpm

all the best bob fisher

You know though I don't get much more than about 150 rpm rise static to
climbout on my Soob with the same prop. It will certainly wind up in
cruise at higher altitudes but surprisingly little during takeoff or a
65 knot climb.

Congrats Jim!

Ken
