[rebel-builders] Tank vents

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:04 pm

Mike, bend the tubes down so they are at min horizontal in static position
tail down...and yes I cut a small circle of screen and use a dowel to push
it into place to keep flys etc from making the fuel tank a home. CYP has sat
outside, at the lake, with a wing root mounted 3/8" ram air tube on it for 9
seasons. Never as much as a drop of water has been found in wing/belly sump
drains or the gascolator in all that time...including yesterday when I did
the annual for the new owner.

Hi all,
I have 2 - 3/8" vent tubes for my fuel tanks. I need to park my airplane
outside for a while and don't want rain entry or mud daubers. When parked
the tubes kind of point upward. Any ideas? Someone mentioned a small gas
filter screen clamped on to keep bugs out, I don't know if the rain will
keep out though?

My Rebel has the same piece of window screen in the
vent tubes - never had a problem, even flying in rain.
