[rebel-builders] Continental LSE

Post by Jean Poirier » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:04 pm

Hello

The LSA200 was on display. Smaller Dynso alternator, oil pan made of
aluminium instead of the "round" tank as on 0-200A. The unit on display was
FADEC equipped. I asked one rep if it will be only with that or if other
options (mags...) will be offer he don't know... say it was still in
"developement". 70 years old technology in development? Probably more a
"marketing" development! But this engine with the improve, one mag and one
electronic ignition (for cost only, at $7000.00 usd fadec(certified option)
is costly could be a good challenger in small engines market. The only
thing, they will have to teach the LSA students what is "carburator icing"
!!! may be the explication of FADEC...

There was a "still in developpement" nice little diesel engine to be a
"direct" replace for ROtax 912! There web site is
www.vulcanaircraftengines.com. We will see if they will be there next
year...

Attendance this year look to be less (as for general public), for the "real"
aircraft people, it is difficult to know. From Thursday to Saturday, the
flight line was "well-lined". Weather was good. I saw 2 amphib-rebel on
the flightline, nothing else. Tuesday night "rebel all together" was
quiet... 10-15 persons Apparently Cessna will go forward with their LSA as
a Cessna rep let me know. Franklin engines still alive... The six-cylinders
was there with some improves... they say the 0-240 4 cylinders will come in
2008 with some improves too. I hope, could be an alternative if the company
have good assets... A lots of new LSA airplanes... Murphy should do
something, a good opportunity for a light Rebel... In the engine workshop,
we had a Cessna 172 conversion with the Thielert diesel engine, very quiet,
smooth running... Ready to fly conversion (you supply the 172...) for
$80000.00 usd! Not now... I will think about it! Surely Bob P. can add
his comments...
