[rebel-builders] Door latches?

I can't tell if that lock can be operated from the inside. I would think
you would want that. I am very happy with mine and they were very easy to
install. Check the archives. I discussed the ones I used before and I'm
pretty sure I uploaded pictures. Any trouble finding that stuff let me know
and I'll email you off list.

Thanks Mike. I found comments on yours in the archive. I don't want to
order from Anchorage <grin>. The link I sent has a mod that Scott Aldrich
did to allow open/close from the inside. Before I order, I thought I'd ask
around and see if there's something a bit simpler and perhaps then less
expensive (i.e. less than $30 each w/ a lock).

Thanks!

Do you need the locks that work from the inside for when you fly through
bad neighborhoods? :)

Ted,

I found some nice ones from Wag aero! Flush mount!

http://store.wagaero.com/product_info.p ... ts_id=2698

$72/each. Not shown in the picture is the handle on the inside. I tried t
lookup the patent 2348085, but my system at home isn't loaded to with the
tools for showing the images.

[rebel-builders] Door latches?

Rick,

Thanks for the pictures. I would like to do something similar. With the
inside handle mounted on the latch at the rear of the door how easy is it to
reach the handle from the pilot's seat? (I don't have seats or doors
installed otherwise I would try this myself).

[rebel-builders] Door latches?

Well, a moose/SR isn't as easy to get in and out of as a Crown Victoria, but
it isn't too bad. I have only tried it in the garage (not flying yet). The
door latch is a bit behind by your left shoulder/upper arm. I considered
building a mechanism to move the handle forward, but it didn't seem worth
it. Maybe others on the list who are flying can provide insight as to where
a point on the door 6" forward of the rear door post actually resides
relative to the pilot.

[rebel-builders] Door latches?

Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:04 pm

Why would you want to get out when you're having so much fun inside?

IMHO, I haven't been in any plane yet that is / was as easy to get out of as
a std car.

My door latches were on the rear post in my old Moose. I'm moving them
forward to the center of the door in this new one.

Also, see http://www.goflyamoose.com/Picture%20pa ... doors.shtm about
2/3 of the way down for where Scott put his door handles.

[rebel-builders] Door latches?

Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:04 pm
by Mike Kimball
My door locks are way back by the rear door post. I'm no contortionist and
I have no trouble at all reaching back to operate them after sliding my seat
back which you have to do to get in and out. I did install a simple handle
to operate the spring loaded latch way up near the front door post. Just a
piece of aluminum angle that pivots on a bolt through the door skin with a
bit of reinforcing doubler where the bolt goes through. Connect the latch
to the handle with a bit of small cable.
