Citrus Safe Update

Post by Bob Patterson » Fri Feb 17, 2012 5:47 pm

Here is the latest info from Ralph. This stuff sounds like a
COMPLETELY safe replacement for MEK, acetone, etc. !!!

The Enviro Klenz sound like the best bet, as it's a LOT cheaper !!
If somebody tries it, PLEASE let the rest of us know how it worked !!!!

Bob, the contact information for the Citra Safe folks is:
Inland Technology Inc.
401 East 27th Street
Tacoma, Washington 98421

Phone 800-552-3100
206-383-1177

Another note - Citra Safe comes two ways, deodorized or not. I have the
deodorized and I can tell you, you better like the smell of oranges! I
have been told the non deodorized will about knock you over with the smell.

Thank you !! SOOOO many people have asked about this cleaner !!!!
I'll forward your letter to the "unauthorized" Rebel builders mail list..
..
You can join at: www.dcsol.com/murphy-rebel Join, Mail Lists,
if you are not on it already. There are searchable archives there, too,
to find quick answers to problems !

The clip nuts are available from Wayne O'Shea, who's on the list, and
at: www.irishfield.on.ca or email at: oifa@irishfield.on.ca

Dave Fife is at: 248-627-4367, or email at: aircrafttips@yahoo.com

We'll look forward to next year - no idea where we'll be going,
though. Might just be local - we only do these big ones every 4 or 5
years.....

Please do pass on the Citrus Safe info when you can.

Thanks again !!!

I just located your card from Sun & Fun.

We had talked about citrus based solvents replacing MEK. There are two
I
am aware of. One is Citra Safe which is made out on the West Coast. I
will get their data next time out to my hangar at the airport. Their
product is used by Boeing and the military as a degreaser. Main problem
is
that it is expensive! The company only sells 5 gallon minimum. I
bought 6
gallon cans and it was $350 with shipping. With all the degreasing to
do
(we are priming entire interior) I evaluated the health risks as worth
it.
In use it is nor uneconomical as the evap rate is much slower than MEK.
Parts need to hang overnight but Citrasafe is totally volitile. It is
non
toxic and biodegradable. I use Invisible Gloves and vinyl gloves as the
solvent action will destroy latex exam gloves and the solvent takes all
the
oils out of your hands. I have been satisfied with the performance as a
solvent leaving no residue. There is a product called Enviro Klenz from
Ammettra Inc. at P.O. Box 936, Baldwinsville, NY 13027, phone
1-800-651-1919, which claims similar properties but is not "aviation"
rated. It is 100% volatile and also non toxic. The flash point is
greater
than 150 degrees. Price is right as well. Last time I asked it was
$3.50
/ quart or $35 / 5 gallons, plus shipping. If I had it to do over I
would
go with the Enviro Klenz.

Please send me the address, email, and phone for Dave Fife so I can
replace
my fiberglass parts with better quality.

We had also talked about aluminum clip nuts to fasten access covers but
I
had elected to go with Rivnuts and nutplates. Enjoy the Ramble. Sue is
retiring in 9 days so we will be able to make some real progress on
serial
611E. With some luck we can Ramble with you next year.
