My rims had the holes, but an extender is necessary for the stem.

Hi All,
I couldn't find anything about this in the archives - which may mean that
no
one else had this question which, in turn, may mean I'm a moron.....

For a for a moose with the standard JDM wheel rims and tires that come
from
MAM, how do I get the tube stem to the outside of the wheel? Do I have
to
dril a hole in the cylinder and use a stem extension?

Thanks,

Fred

Hi Charlie,

Do you mean your rims had holes in the cylinders - the surface that actually
comes in contact with the inner surface of the tube?

My rims have stem holes in the end plates but not in the cylinders.

Hi Fred

You are by far not the only one that has asked that question
If you have a hole drilled in the spacer you need a 90 deg valve with an
extension
If you have a hole drilled in the wheel rim you need a straight valve
with no extension.

If you have the normal aviation tube with the angled stem, then u have the
newer modified rims and not the go cart tube set up with the 90* stem that
comes out of the center of the inside drum. If your tube stem comes out
from the center and turns 90* and points to the outside, then u have the
wrong ones.

[rebel-builders] JDM wheels, tires and tubes on a moose

Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:00 pm

ARGH!!!...If this weren't so inconvenient, it would be funny.

Thanks Nancy and Steve for your help.

My tire tubes have a straight 2" stem that comes off at an angle from the
main plane of the tube. This tube requires the new style wheels.

My wheel spacer has no hole in it. Suggesting a new style wheel.

The wheel ends (the head and bottom of a drum) have holes in them.......BUT
THE HOLES ARE INSIDE THE RADIUS OF THE SPACER!!!!!! There is no physical
path from inside the tire to the outside world (which one would need if they
needed to put air in these things).

So the wheels are of mixed breed???? A wheel made with a new spacer and
old heads???

So its back to MAM I go?

[rebel-builders] JDM wheels, tires and tubes on a moose

Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:00 pm
by Nancy Puff
Let me expand on that

If you had a wheel rim with a hole drilled out on an angle ....without
a hole in the spacer.... then that would be for a stright valve tube.
If you had a spacer with a hole in the middle and at the top through the
Rim a straight hole that is, that would be for a 90 deg tube with an
extension.

By the looks of things you have the wrong tubes for your wheels and will
need to drill a hole in your spacer
If it's straight valve you want then you will need the hole for that to
be machined through the rim
Hmmph, I guess either way your in a pickle. Sorry didn't have good news.

Nancy

main plane of the tube. This tube requires the new style wheels.

My wheel spacer has no hole in it. Suggesting a new style wheel.

The wheel ends (the head and bottom of a drum) have holes in
them.......BUT
THE HOLES ARE INSIDE THE RADIUS OF THE SPACER!!!!!! There is no
physical
path from inside the tire to the outside world (which one would need if
they needed to put air in these things).

So the wheels are of mixed breed???? A wheel made with a new spacer
and
old heads???

So its back to MAM I go?

Hi Fred

You are by far not the only one that has asked that question If you
have a hole drilled in the spacer you need a 90 deg valve with an
extension If you have a hole drilled in the wheel rim you need a
straight valve with no extension.

Hi All,
I couldn't find anything about this in the archives - which may mean
that no one else had this question which, in turn, may mean I'm a
moron.....

For a for a moose with the standard JDM wheel rims and tires that
come from
MAM, how do I get the tube stem to the outside of the wheel? Do I
have
to
dril a hole in the cylinder and use a stem extension?

Thanks,

Fred

[rebel-builders] JDM wheels, tires and tubes on a moose

What pickle? Why not contact MAM and get them to straighten things out? I
don't see why they wouldn't provide you with compatible parts to put your
wheels and tubes together. I'm a little confused myself. I don't remember
anything that could be called a "spacer" with my wheels. I just remember
two wheel halves and a tube and everything went together just fine and no
valve extension needed. Maybe I have a different kind of wheel? Did you
opt for the 8.5 upgrade? I have the stock 8.0.

My wheel spacer has no hole in it. Suggesting a new style wheel.

[rebel-builders] JDM wheels, tires and tubes on a moose

Fred
If u don't have the angled hole thu the outer rim then u will have to send
them back to the factory and have them drilled. That's what I had to do
with mine. Those 600X15X6 tubes they send are so small they are about as
thick as a condon when inflated against the tire. The first circuit I did
with mine resulted in a flat. There were no tubes to be had anywheres and if
it wasn't for Gill lending me his 800X6 tires and tubes, I wouldn't have
made it to Osh last year.

[rebel-builders] JDM wheels, tires and tubes on a moose

Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:00 pm
by Ken
My Rebel JDM's of several years ago came with the bent valve stems and I
had to drill the center wheel cylinder to feed the stem through to the
hole in the wheel end plate. By carefully positioning the hole in the
center cylinder, no additional valve extension was needed providing I
use an offset or angled air chuck. I suppose I should throw a temporary
short extension in my tool kit though. Also note the bulletin on
assembling these wheels so that the brake disc does not wobble excessively.

Well, I gotta tell you - the Moose-JDM rim problem came to a very
satisfactory conclusion.

Paul and Steven at MAM are just great to work with. Conscientious and
courteous.

They took back the old rims and are shipping out the straight stemmed ones
on or about Monday. Top notch.

Thanks for everyones help and suggestions!
