Hi!

I know the AN nuts, bolts, washers, etc. are plated so they don't need to be
chromated. How about the aluminum parts that interface with them? And how
about the stainless steel rivets? A man once remarked to me that 'stainless'
ought to be two words, 'stain less', i.e. they still corrode but not as
quickly.

In a previous message I referenced LPS spray. It is a corrosion inhibitor
that is superior in many ways to WD40. Lot's of A&P's use it religiously.

My A&P uses it for the purpose that you are asking about. Whenever there
is contact with a CAD plated bolt to other metal, the CAD will usually
scrape off, either during the installation or over time thru normal wear.
Just disassemble some of your stuff that has not even been in flight yet
and you'll see what I mean.

In those areas you mention, bolts, etc... Use a little (very little) LPS,
only AFTER you are torqued up.

Stainless rivets will probably not corrode in your lifetime, unless you are
planning heavy salt water operations.

I have noticed that the cadmium layer has worn off when putting on and
taking
off nuts. I guess I'll look for this 'LPS' spray in my catalogs.
