Hi Brian et all, I just talked to the man with the strange aileron
situation. He was pissed at me because I have the nerve to suggest that he
missed some very important rivets. All the while he is flying his Rebel with
others in it and has accumulated 18 hours. It is currently in the hangar,
since he is putting in an extra torquetube for separate and manual flaps.
Just like my current set-up, except my flaps are driven by a Grumman Yankee
electric flapmotor. When I keep asking him, how come I cannot move MY
opposite aileron but a few degrees, while he gets this enormous deflection,
his answer is "that I am just lucky" and that I am not listening to him,
five Canadian current and/or previous Rebel owners, mostly from New
Brunswick described the exact same condition he has, on their Rebels! Well I
do not have an answer for that since I did not talk to them. His other main
argument is that if he had one or more of those plugs not rivetted, as I
suggested, his (aileron) controls would remain in whatever position and
WOULD NOT BOUNCE BACK. He is right about one thing, we are not going to
resolve this thing over the phone and I am going to wait til he has his
airplane flying again i.e. the flaps finished and then I can see this
phenomena for myself. Since I got this ball rolling, I will keep you all
posted. Regards, Geert
