[rebel-builders] Float inspection/pump out plates

If you are installing pump out cups/hoses.....NO you don't use those W-49's
and NO the pump out cups don't get installed in the inspection covers, or at
least I wouldn't be putting them that low on the float sides.

Subject: [rebel-builders] Float inspection/pump out plates

Hi Guys,
I'm looking over the instructions for cutting out and installing the float
inspection plates located in the side skins (2 on the left skin and 1 on
the right). I would like to use a hole cutter to make the 5 1/2 " plates
thinking that a hole in the center of this plates is OK because according
to all the pictures I see a pump-out cup will be installed in these plates
later, although I can't find that step anywhere.
Also, I'm confused about the purpose of the small W-49. The manual is
saying these W-49s which only has a 9/16" hole in the center is "used for
pumping out water from these compartments" ...? This doesn't make any
sense to me. My guess is that the W-49 is installed to vent some
compartments.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Clay

Ok Wayne, that clears it up. I didn't realize separate pump-outs for each
compartment wasn't included in their build plans.
Lots to learn.
Thanks

Clay..are you building amphibs or straight floats? With amphibs you can't
quickly get into the front two compartments (no spin off caps) so the
W-49's
were put there for pump outs...where all the other compartments you are to
spin off the access caps on the deck and then pump out. Pump put cups
alleviate the access issue all together.

Thanks Wayne and Drew,
I'm sure glad that I checked in before drilling. Actually I looked back
and
discovered only one picture with the pump-out flange inside the
inspection
plate ... not sure why I didn't look further, and yes I do have the new
metal pump-out cups with my kit. I still can't find any info regarding
their instal locations so I guess that they have to be placed as high up
the
side skin as possible as Wayne suggested (much like the W-49 fittings)
and
above the deepest section of each compartment.
I'm still confused about the W-49 fittings. The manual shows only 2
locations on each float for these pump-outs ..?
Drew, I know a guy who made fibre glass pump-out cups for 2 sets of
floats
without much trouble.

Thanks again.
Clay

regular
beckman pump with a funnel duct taped to the end to fit into the W-49's.
Someday I'll put regular pump-outs in all the compartments but I have a
cheap attack evertime I look at the price of the pump out cups.
