[rebel-builders] FUS-372 dash - fire proof firewalls

Definitely Ken..since they already have an airflow established to help
direct the flames to it for melt down.

Hundreds and hundreds of RV's out there with alum boxes and some
Rebels/Elite in my hangar as well with them however...since that is what
Vans make/made some really nice compact ones out of, at a reasonable price.
Mine's steel...old J3 style..on my Rebel.

I was going to glue fiberfrax onto it but I remade it in stainless for
my Rebel. Glad I did as the fiberfrax would have got a good spraying of
oil during engine testing while I was trying to find the oil leak that
was under the flywheel on the other friggin end of the engine... FWIW I
think that aluminum cabin heat boxes/valves are probably a higher risk.

A recent article in either Sport Aviation or Kitplanes (I can't remember which) graphically (photos) demonstrated what happens to aluminum heat boxes in a fire. They just melt. Mine will be stainless...

I've got a nice steel one out of a tri-pacer that I'm going to install
someday but it's too cold to be doing things like that now. Flying without
a heater really isn't much of a problem if you dress properly. A bit of
heat radiates off the firewall and there's no wind in the cockpit. So far I
haven't had the windows fog up.

Thanks Dale! An exact copy of the ones Van's was selling, but Stainless

They were very nice to deal with at Oshkosh, not pushy as some sales are
there. I was happy to deal with them,, they do offer discounts now and
then,, like at airshows...They also shipped it to me free of charge.. I had
a lot to carry the day I bought it and this was in the morning so I asked
if I could pick it up later and they offer to ship it to my home free of
charge... I guess you know I didn't carry it..Dale
