[rebel-builders] Rebel - Should you move your firewall back 3"? A let

Bob,

That is exactly what I had thought about the
0-235...too much weight for the amount of horse power.
I hav an 0-235 in a 7AC Champ I bought last year to
get some tailwheel time. It has VG's also and is a
pretty decent performer. But it is very nose heavy.
Almost impossible to stall it. Stick back...it just
mushes along. The good thing is when it was converted
the weight wasn't increased so it is LSA.
So, I guess when the time comes I will either go 0-320
or the Rotax. Long time til I get to that point
anyways. And then of course there's that 9 cyl. Rotec
radial that would look sooo sweet on the Rebel. "Mini
Moose"/Beaver" I'm just full of ideas!! :)
Hate to say this, but up in the boonies where I will
be living most of the guys tell me to not worry about
the medical and fly what I want. There are a bunch of
older guys flying around that way.....also a bunch of
planes flying around that are a few, LOL, years out of
annual. Even though they aren't annualed though
doesn't mean they aren't taken care of. :)

I thought that's what you'd say, Keith !!
;-) :-)

There's no doubt I love the 912 --- but that
O-235L2C
118 hp. would work well too - be a bit tight to fit
LSA, but
could fit with restricted load. I had a Rebel with
an O-235C2C
for about 7 years - would not recommend that engine
particularly.... It was slower than the 912, took
longer to
get off the ground, burned more gas, and cost a LOT
more
in repairs !! Only 100/108 hp when new - it mostly
put
out about 80 hp for me .... I did drag it across
Canada,
on Murphy 1500 amphibs - but I wouldn't be here if I
weren't a glider pilot !! I'm sure a 100 hp. 912-S
would
run rings around it - over 150 lb. lighter to start
with !

Bob,

Sell it after all this work! Are you NUTS!! LOL

After reading everything Daryl and you have
writen,
and all the thinking I have been doing lately, I
imagine I will be using the Rotax when it gets to
that
point. But I have changed my mind before! :) Plus
I
have a couple of cores available..an 0-235L2C and
an
0-320D2J. Plus I have that wrecked Rebel with the
Subaru engine. Decisions...decisions.
