[rebel-builders] Tail-spring bulkhead ?

Hi Ben: Sorry for the delay in a response but that sounds like a good plan.
The whole object in that area is to have good solid contact to minimize any
chance of parts working or moving around. The Rebel I am currently working
on, I was apparently sleeping when I did that area and for some reason did
not have that bulkhead sitting on the bottom when I started drilling the
flanges. I made up and shaped a 1/8 spacer to fill the gap. The tail spring
bolt will pull it all tight on assembly. This is the 3rd Rebel I am
assembling and the first I have had any problem (correction - challenges) in
that area. I also had to reshape the fingers slightly to get a good fit to
the sides. Sometimes not all goes as planned. Bob J Rebel 192/731

Subject: [rebel-builders] Tail-spring bulkhead ?

Hey all,
Last night I was working on fitting the tailspring bulkhead Fus-49 to
Fus-30. I get more gap than should be there on a couple of the lower
finger flanges left side of Fus-49 and the inside of Fus-30. I've nudged
the position of Fus-49 but don't want to play with that too much as MAM
calls out that 4 3/4" distance and it looks like it is supposed to be
parallel to the back fin post. I'm thinking of putting a shim (probably
032) spacer between those flange fingers that don't sit flush. This sound
reasonable?

[rebel-builders] Tail-spring bulkhead ?

Thanks Bob and Bob,
Shimming that for tight fit seemed the only reasonable idea, but nice to
get another brain or two to confirm before moving ahead on it. I saw from
the archives also that this bulkhead was done differently in the early Rebels.

Yes Bobp, I've wondered about when to add in the Fus-30 doubler. Trying to
get it going when first wrapping up Fus-30 to the horizontal bulkhead
Fus-31 I think helped me screw up my first attempt on Fus-30. But at that
point I was working with way too much length on the doubled Fus-30 and
therefore I missed on getting a tight fit with either of them to Fus-29.
Now that my single Fus-30 is set (quite nicely I might add!) with #40
holes to Fus-31 (and Fus-89 and the triangles and to the bottom 3 holes of
the fin post), I will see about adding the doubler portion. All along,
there have been times to wonder how the hell I'm gonna get correct hole
placement to the doubler when the match holes are from the inaccessible
inside. I've thought worst case is the lexan method -- it has been a nice
trick in other places. Thanks again,
-Ben/ 496R

Hi Ben !

If the FUS-30 is just clecoed on, you could pop it off, and back-drill
through the doubler ..... I know - it's awkward working with that
thick stuff - but it's worth it !!! ;-)
