Can't remember Jean. Was that engine conical or dynafocal mounting?

Oups..

It is for 0-235C1 . I think they call that conical. The mounts are 90
degrees with the crank direction... not at angle... Like my 0-200 in my
C-150... Do you understand what I mean?

Flat face to bolt engine to = conical mount Jean. Angled = Dynafocal

There are two versions of the conical. The original for using the nose bowl
and doors cowling and then an updated one that was redesigned so that
conical mount engines would fit up inside the speed cowling. I believe it
was made with the engine 1 1/2" higher or similar than the original. Walter
probably knows exactly as that is what he has on his Rebel!

Can't help you with a mount, I only have a dynafocal tucked away for a rainy
day..... that currently is not for sale before anyone asks.

If I remember when I was looking before ordering the kit, Bob P. recommend
me the standard cowl saying it was easier to work with and the speed lost
was not significant. I have already buy a nose bowl at the last Sun'Fun
from an Ontario guy who was making Cup copy (he did sale the company to the
people of "Turbin Legend" or "turbin Cub". What will be your choice today?

Yes, that's correct. There were 2 versions of the conical mount. The 2nd one raised the engine 1.5 inches higher. What I don't know, is exactly which one MAM sells today, or maybe they still have both.

Hello Bob

On their web site, MAM just show one conical engine mount, probably the one for speed cowl. I will ask them tomorow... Do you have a part
number for the "standard one" ?

Rare as hen's teeth Jean.....but worth a shot to ask here on the list. 95%
of the mounts that left the factory are/were dynafocal.

Randy recently ordered one from Steve for his fuselage and it's supposed to
be here mid March, so I can attach to same......and it had better.......

Hi Jean

The part # is E-77 for the Conical Mount Rebel/ Elite 477.83 USD @ Murphy
There are no Rings required for this one and is easier to get made.

But Wayne is right the most common one is the Dynafocal

Nancy...are they still making two different ones or just a single style of
the conical to cover both cowlings. The original conical was for the nose
bowl and doors cowling and later they realized that to fit a conical engine
into the speed cowling (that was laid up using a dynafocal engine)....it had
to be made 1.5" higher to the engine center line than the original conical
mount. That 1.5" makes a big difference in the look of the cowl when using
the nose bowl and doors. I can tell an old conical mount Rebel and a
dynafocal mount Rebel from 500 feet away when both have the nose bowl and
doors cowling...........and I really prefer the ability to slop the nose
down to the nose bowl away from the windshield with the old mount. The
newer/higher conical and the dynafocal mounts both make the nose bowls top
edge pretty much level with the windshield bottom..ie no slope away to the
nose.

Hi Wayne,

They are not making two different ones it is the same conical mount they made before

Darryl says that the Conical mount will work with the new High Speed cowling it was modified to fit both.

I can't say from personal experience however.

Hey Wayne,

Unless there was some change before I got there
I was told there was only ever one mount
But before they changed the cowling it only fit the nose bowl.
They did do a lot of work with the new high speed cowling to make it fit both.
I only have 2 cents to contribute you have so much more :)

Some day it would be interesting to compare my conical mount to a current one. It was my engine that was brought into MAM many years ago, to fit a new conical mount for the speed cowl. The original one was 1.5 inches lower. I assume, but am not sure if mine is the current one. They also made a new bottom cowl with my engine, with the carb centered. Not sure if that is still used either. I do remember, and also quite a few years ago, walking through the factory with Robin, and found a few old moulds in a back room for the high speed cowl. One of them was for my engine.

But if I ever go to a clone 0360, will have to decide if I want to stick with my old conical mount and whether I will need a new cowl.
