[rebel-builders] mag wires

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:30 am

Fiber washers is there to make sure the lug stays isolated. It goes
first..then your wire lug..then star and then the nut. Good practice is to
have a small wire insulator "boot" over the wire lead as well to pop over
the terminal. Identical in shape...but of course smaller...than the ones for
battery terminal covering.

And a cautionary not for everyone here....remember that those mags are
LIVE<< until grounded...so before you go putting a propellor on and
turning the engine with it be sure you have at least grounded both mag
terminals to the engine case. Only takes one good spark to get your hand
broken or worse....especially if the engine was test run before delivery and
may have residual fuel etc hanging around in it.

Hi all

I am wiring my mags and notice that on the post is a nut, star washer and
fibre washer, is there a correct order to put the mag wire onto the
terminal, for example should fibre wire go on first, star washer then nut,
is wire not supposed to touch plate or case of mag unit

Thanx and hope all have good xmas
