[rebel-builders]Sealant for Access panels in fuel tanks

Hi Dale,

Don't have a name for you (sorry) but there is a type of pro-seal that is
used for installing the access panels if you think you will want to remove
them in the future and not want to fight the bond strength of regular
pro-seal. It's a standard product used in aviation circles. I believe it was
a reddish orange and I got it from the same people that supplied the regular
and brushable pro-seals we used.

Hope this helps.

Dale

Proseal the hell out of the plates and BE SURE to use the closed end revits to
hold the plates on.
Key here is to get a good seal use the correct revits for the job.
If the standard revits are used the stems will leak AT SOME TIME.

What is being used on the access panels in the fuel compartments of the
wings to seal them up? Is there a proseal that is used ? I need to get mine
sealed up to fire engine up. I emailed MAM but didn't get a reply and didn't
see anything in the manual.. Thanks Dale SR-033

[rebel-builders]Sealant for Access panels in fuel tanks

DOW 730 is a sealant that the military uses on panels that need frequent
entry ... will work, but is expensive. Over 75US per tube if you can find it,
and it expires quickly also. I have some that I am going to test on my
Grumman alongside with the low adhesion pro-seal on adjacent cover to see
the difference. I HATE cleaning off old pro-seal.

Scrape, gouge, scrape, gouge, scrape, scuff with scotchbrite ... all using
aluminum homemade scrapers, picks, gougers. Clean up with xylene or
toluene, not MEK, etc. You'll end up with a headache, brain damage, or
death depending on the exposure. I think I only have minor brain damage
since I'm building amphibs and a rebel, own a varieze that I tinker with
constantly, am restoring a Grumman Tiger including engine overhaul, many
stc's upgrades, paint, instruments, radios, etc. Did a Bonanza once and didn't
learn my lesson. ... and a C-310 ... and a midget mustang ... and a Stinson
OK I'll stop now and get back to scraping and gouging the pro-seal in the
Tiger tank.
