[rebel-builders] Custom's fee

Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:26 am
by Garry Wright
The expedited delivery services like UPS and Fedex etc like to charge
hefty brokerage fees on anything they bring into Canada from the US. Its
not a customs fee or a duty - smells like a racket to me. It also sounds
like you have been stung by the same guys. The usual way around this is
to use USPS for shipping from the US - then the fee is only $5. It
probably works like that going the other way except Canada Post's rates
are higher than USPS rates by a fair bit. Wayne may have a comment on
this one too.

wonderful, but she can't bypass the government imposed crap.

There is NO duty on "aircraft parts" - should be able to get them in
that way ! ;-)

Garry's right - this extra fee stuff is a rip-off by the courier
companies !

I'll have to ask Nancy on Monday what the deal is...the Invoice from Murphy
lists:

Customs charge: $45

Maybe I can deduct it from my taxes...yea right!

Bent over, doing my part to support the government <grin>.

[rebel-builders] Custom's fee

Ted:

The problem is UPS and their customs agent. We (Aeromedix) gave up
on them completely and use the mail. Nancy knows this well but she
is lazy and screws up the bill of lading all the time. I generally
now have Doug or Brian pick stuff up, bring it with them when coming
to Jackson or take it to Seattle next time they come over and ship it
at the UPS store. USPS is great as well.

[rebel-builders] Custom's fee

Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:26 am
by Jim Cole
I use Fedex and half the time I don't have any additional charges and
the other half I'll get an additional bill for GST only.
My experience with UPS has always been a lot more expensive with the
additional charges.

There is no duty on aircraft parts as part of the NAFTA agreement.

When I shipped a kit to the US, I did have a Broker do the paper work
and it cost between 3 and $400 depending on what value was put on the
kit for insurance purposes.

Cheers
Jim
